Hi! I’m Betti Rooted Lionheart. I’m a Shamanic Healer and a Minister of the Church of Earth Healing, but, of course, the path has been long and challenging. I spent most of my life in what I now know in retrospect to be a state of depression. I felt deeply connected to and deeply grieved for our Earth from the age of seven. I spent my life seeking some way to help save the Earth from the harm the human species has and is doing to Her.
My journey led me to a BA in Environmental Studies (2000) followed by an MA in Geography (2005) with an emphasis in global food systems studies. I trained as an organic farmer at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems of the University of California at Santa Cruz (2002-2003) where I met the father of my two children.
Before I knew my connection to Spirit, Spirit led us from Northern California to Trumansburg, NY in 2010, to the land that wishes it’s Spirit name to be known: Braided Root Waters. We came with the dual dreams of creating an intentional community and a small, organic farm. The goal was to become adequately self-sufficient to survive collapse of the modern human systems upon which we rely and which are destroying life on our planet.
With a three year old, a newborn (in 2012), getting started on land with no home or other human built structures, and trying to fit ourselves into a well-developed organic farming scene, by 2015 we had failed at farming, at intentional community, and at establishing any degree of self sufficiency. These were the worst, most difficult years of my life. I hit bottom. And I am grateful. Because I chose to place both feet firmly onto a path of healing.
I met my Teacher, Bekki Shining Bearheart, in December of 2015. I saw her flier for a shamanic workshop at the local food co-op. I wasn’t interested in and didn’t even know what Shamanism was. But I saw the words “Church of Earth Healing” and I had to know more.
In January 2016 the amazing, life changing word of the Shamanic Journey and connection to Spirit opened up to me. I have been healing, growing, changing, and manifesting ever since, and I wish to share the blessings of my journey, the healing work that Spirit sees fit to move into the world through me, with you.
My Shamanic Lineage is the Spirit-Led Shamanism developed by Bekki Shining Bearheart and Crow Swimsaway of the Church of Earth Healing. I am so blessed to have had Bekki Shining Bearheart as my Teacher.
Through MoonWise EarthWalks Healing I seek to help transform the Earth one heart at a time by offering my healing work to individuals. I help people heal and re-connect to themselves, to the Earth, to Spirit, to Beauty, to Purpose to Truth and to Each Other.
Through Braided Root Waters Healing Sanctuary I seek to join with others, who love and grieve for our Earth, to do direct Earth healing work through Ritual, Ceremony, Sacred Fire, Song and Dance. The healing sanctuary will also make it possible for other healers to offer their healing work to individuals, and for two or more healers working together to offer their healing work to groups.
I am also a facilitator of the Work That Reconnects developed by Joanna Macy and her colleagues. The Work That Reconnects is an amazing group process that helps people process and move through our despair for our planet so that we are not stuck in and paralyzed by our despair. Together we move from despair to Empowerment! This deeply transformative work will also be offered at Braided Root Waters Healing Sanctuary. I currently co-facilitate the Despair and Discovery Circle in Ithaca.
